November events roundup
Ukuleles, reggae and a teen musical prodigy at The Oxford this November
As the nights drew in and got EXTREMELY cold, our undaunted volunteer team put on some great events in November - with the help of our newly-enclosed and heated marquee and cosy cobbled barn.
The Oxford hosted 3 community events, and kicked off the first of its Wednesday morning regular opening hours as part of the national “Places of Welcome” scheme.
First up, artist Kate Green’s whimsical and musical performance touched on everything from the history of the reservoirs of South Wales to spreading pate with a Laura Ashley store card. Big thanks to Lovely Spudly who served up jackets and nachos, perfect for a (nearly) winter’s night!
Then we opened for the first of our Wednesday morning drop-in sessions, as an officially designated “Place of Welcome”!
Places of Welcome is a growing network of local community groups providing their neighbourhoods with places where all people feel safe to connect, belong and contribute. If you’re passing by on a Wednesday morning, and fancy a chat/free tea/coffee/biscuits, come and say hello!
It happened again… our reggae night was so much fun that noone got any photos - that’s a sign of a great night out, right? DJ Steve M packed out the barn and the brilliant new Hereford-based pizza van The Dough’zy Mares did a stellar stint to keep us all fed.
Finally, 17-year-old singer-songwriter Lake packed out the barn for a gorgeous gig to see out November. RJ’s Smoke Shack joined us to cook up a storm in the yard with their popular smash burgers and waffles.
None of this would have been possible without our fantastic team of volunteers - patching up the marquee after Storm Bert, creating our festive window displays, hosting our Places of Welcome, and the countless other jobs they do behind the scenes. Want to join us? Fill out our volunteer form
