October events roundup

From DJ nights to Diwali, here’s what happened at The Oxford in October

This month our volunteer team put on 5 community events, welcoming around 350 old and new faces come to dance, write, craft, learn…and even find a hidden fortune in their attics.

The month kicked off in spectacular style with a visit from the antiques valuation experts at Halls Fine Art, who valued 92 different items throughout a 4 hour session, and found some hidden gems - you can read about what they discovered here. Huge thanks to the Halls team who helped us raise almost £200 for the project!

Next, we kicked off a donation-based creative writing course with author Sarah Star, running throughout October and November. Sarah’s course is already full, but due to popular demand she may be back to run a second very soon - watch this space!

Sarah (a different one) returned with a one-off Creative Cafe Autumn Special this month, creating sock pumpkins and autumnal garlands in a relaxed, friendly session.

DJ Polo brought jungle beats and great vibes to our barn for an epic Saturday night out. Families and friends of all ages joined us - the youngest was just a few weeks old!

We wrapped up the month with a huge Diwali celebration - over 150 people joined throughout the day which offered Mehndi, Rangoli pattern making, paper lantern decoration, stunning Indian street food and stories of Diwali. The sun shone, and the atmosphere was incredible.

None of this would have been possible without our incredibly dedicated, big-hearted and imaginative team of volunteers. Want to join us? Fill out our volunteer form today!
