The Oxford Arms is now proudly owned by

locally founded community organisation

Open Arms Kington!

Based in the market town of Kington in the Marches, OAK is delighted to have secured this landmark local building for the benefit of the community. All profits from the business will be reinvested in community activity.

The building itself will be closed for a period of time whilst we raise further funds and undertake essential renovations. In the interim, join us in the Oxford Courtyard & Barn for our pop-up pub & cafe. Community activities and pop-up kitchen events will be posted on the noticeboard outside the pub, in the News section on the website & on social media. Hope to see you soon!

Community ownership has been at the heart of OAK’s vision. In the near future we plan to launch a community share offer, making the Oxford truly owned by Kington community & its supporters. Would you like to help us make good things happen?

What is our vision?

To create a welcoming, inclusive hub and pub that fosters community, growth and resilience within one of Kington’s landmark heritage buildings, The Oxford Arms

‘a place where good things happen every day’

What is the plan?

To keep The Oxford as one of Kington’s most cherished pubs and local venues, whilst developing the community offer to make full use of this brilliant building.

One of the key ambitions of OAK is to put young people at the heart of creating a new community hub with dedicated youth provision.

We will ultimately aim to provide:

  • regular live music and performances

  • pop-up food events

  • film screenings

  • workshop/meeting space

  • partnerships with other local community groups

  • fully accessible provision

  • collaboration with social prescribing

  • training opportunities/work experience

  • inter-floor lift

  • super-fast fibre broadband and live streaming events

The Oxford Story

A dynamic exhibition about the life and times of the Oxford Arms

Call out-invitation for artists and makers to be part of an exhibition of work reflecting the many stories surrounding this historic building which has been at the heart of Kington for centuries.

There are many ways to explore and contribute to this theme - pictures, sculpture, textiles, words, song, or music - drawing on personal and historical memory and experience, fact, and fantasy, or even notes on napkins ... whatever might trigger your creative response.

Please join us in building towards an interactive Oxford Story display as part of the 3 day Marches Makers Festival on the 4th, 5th and 6th May.  If you would like to know more, share thoughts and inspiration, and explore how you might get involved, we would love to hear from you.  In the next few weeks Annie and Nancy will be arranging informal sessions to share ideas to help make this exciting exhibition a reality.

Please be in touch for more details or questions.
